Burnham Harbor Gives Back is a way for our team to dedicate a day each quarter to an organization that betters the lives of those in less fortunate situations.

Here are some of the organizations we’ve been working with over the past year.
The Burnham Harbor Private Wealth team has volunteered at the RMHC in downtown Chicago for two years straight, preparing, cooking, and serving food to the families of seriously ill or injured children. RMHC provides these families with a supportive place to stay near the hospital—helping them avoid the high cost of lodging while focusing on what matters most: their child’s care. While the meal itself is a small gesture, it connects to something much larger—RMHC programs across 62 countries saved families an estimated $736 million in lodging and meal expenses last year.
Care for Real provides groceries to individuals and families facing food insecurity, as well as ready-to-eat meals for those without access to kitchens, in Edgewater and Rogers Park day in and day out. CfR’s mission is to foster a healthy and equitable community by helping neighbors and families overcome food insecurity with dignity.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository distributes food to over 800,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. After volunteers inspect, sort, package, and label food items, GCFD distributes them across food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and direct-to-door channels, ensuring an equitable and expansive reach. GCFD sees hunger as rooted in poverty, systemic inequality, and structural racism – providing not just food but job training to those in need.
Given our namesake, we are motivated to keeping the largest body of freshwater clean in its supply of surrounding ponds, rivers, and harbors. Maintaining our oceans and lakes for all wildlife is an important step in protecting our planet for generations to come. But the Great Lakes aren’t just an excuse to get outside in the summer months; they’re the source of drinking water for more than 30 million people in the U.S. and Canada, according to NOAA. The Rochester Institute of Technology found over 22 million pounds of plastic are deposited into the Great Lakes each year, absorbing toxic chemicals from carcinogenic factories and dangerous microbes once in the water. Needless to say picking up after yourself is not just an aesthetic choice; it’s a matter of public safety.
